" I did everything I could.." What did you do so we don't repeat to you what ever you did?

Did anything unusual happen the last time it was working?

I replaced the charger and battery but it didn't work. None of the indication lights works to even show there's power in it. The last time it was working nothing unsual happened after doing whatever I have to do that night the battery was low so I plugged the charger in and slept. When day break I turned it on and it came alright and within few minutes it went off and that was it.

Hi @boaz47008

With the charger connected, no power light at all is indicative of no power being detected on the motherboard.

First thing to check is if the DC In jack (supplier example only) is OK.

What can happen is that the centre +ve connector of the jack can break internally and this opens the power circuit between the charger and the motherboard so that the motherboard receives no power and thus the battery can't be charged either.

Here's the owner manual for the laptop. Go to p.29 to view the procedure to remove the DC-In jack (aka power connector).

Once you have access to the connector' cable plug, disconnect it from the motherboard and then use an Ohmmeter to prove continuity of the wiring between the jack's centre + input (where the charger plugs into) and the red wires on the jack's output cable plug and also the jack's outer -ve input to the black wires on the plug. You could also connect the charger to the jack and check that there is 19V DC when measuring between the red and black wires of the plug.

If the jack is faulty it cannot be repaired, it has to be replaced.

Search online for Dell E5540 DC-In jack to find suppliers that suit you best.

If the DC-In jack tests OK then there's a problem on the motherboard and further testing which would require having the schematics for the motherboard would be necessary to find out what's wrong.

I have sent it to someone to check it and he told me the problem is from the motherboard.

He also told the only option I have now is to buy a new laptop

He gives up early.

What is the model number of the motherboard as printed on the motherboard itself?

For example if the motherboard is a Compal LA-9832P you can download the schematic for free from here and then on p.59 you can start tracing the power circuit in from the DC-In jack to find out why the motherboard isn't indicating that power is available.

You would have to know how to read schematic diagrams of course but I'm presuming whoever you took it to should be able to do this if they're a professional repairer.

I don't think he'd be able to do read that 😀😀

@boaz47008

Obviously not a professional laptop repairer then ;-)
