@sombitch the myth of rice as a tool for any kind of immersion accident has long been laid to rest as totally bogus. Rice does not work. It is the equivalent of doing absolutely nothing. For now you want to stop continuing to try to charge, sync or otherwise use your iPad. This potentially can make a bad situation worse. This may further damage your phone.

The next thing to do is to clean it. You already know you have water damage, based on your statement that "it was holding the power button without me holding it" Disassemble your iPad by using the right model iPad Apple iPad and then use those guides. Once disassembled, you must remove all EMI shields. If you do not remove those, you might as well not do anything. After you removed those, clean the whole board, connectors and all with at least+90% isopropyl alcohol. Follow this guide , and even so it was written for an Apple iPhone 3G, all the points are still pertinent to your iPad. While you clean your board, check for any obvious damage, like burned or missing components etc. When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Best thing to do, would be to clean it with an ultrasonic cleaner, but if you do not have access to one, this will at least help. Once all this is done, reassemble your iPad and reevaluate. Until it is cleaned, everything will only be a guess. Even with all this, water damage has only a small chance to be fully repaired, but at least you can give it a try.

If your iPad was exposed to water and you left it for 2+ months, there is a good chance that the device has suffered water damage. Water can cause corrosion and damage to internal components, which can affect the device's functionality and potentially cause it to stop working altogether.

The fact that your iPad was holding the power button without you holding it is a concerning sign, as it suggests that there may be damage to the device's internal circuitry.

Here are a few steps you can take to try to restore your iPad:

  1. Turn off the iPad and do not attempt to turn it back on. If it is still turned on, turn it off immediately.
  2. Wipe off any excess water and dry the iPad as much as possible. You can use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently remove any water from the surface of the device. Do not use a hairdryer or other heating devices to dry the iPad, as this can cause further damage.
  3. Place the iPad in a container with uncooked rice or silica gel packets. These materials can help to absorb any remaining moisture in the device. Leave the iPad in the container for at least 24-48 hours.
  4. After the iPad has been in the container for 24-48 hours, remove it from the rice or silica gel packets and attempt to turn it on. If it does not turn on, try charging it with a known working charger for several hours and then try turning it on again.

If your iPad still does not turn on or function properly after following these steps, it may be necessary to take it to a professional repair service or contact Apple support for further assistance.

So basically I was in my bathtub and a little bit water go on the camera and I thought it will be fine until I saw it disappeared and it spread it and it was not stopping and it was a bigger one and when I turned off the iPad you can like see the darker black and if I turned it on that spot where it braided is brighter than the other ones that’s not wet and it made me so scared because it was the second time that did it until I had to wait a month for it to be fixed after being on it and charging it, but is it very bad?

Update (03/14/26)

Well, that’s not what I’m looking for. It’s been like an hour and I can’t use that spot no more.
