After our Kenmore front loader HE3t washer door wouldn’t open my husband reached up to pull the manual release ring but broke it before the door open! Is it possible to open the door another way

by

If the door is locked it might be to prevent water from getting out due to a bad pump or clogged line. However, there is a manual release tab you can pull.

There is NO lower panel...at all.

There is no door, no panel on front of washer!

There is a tab on the bottom of the door lock assembly that you can pull until it clicks to manually unlock the washer door. To access this tab, unplug the washer and remove the bottom front service panel as shown in the first image below. Once the door is unlocked, you may be able to close it and then drain the washer to finish the cycle if there is no damage to the plunger or the door lock assembly. If there is damage to the door lock assembly, you can access it (with the washer still unplugged) by using the procedure in the link.

You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website if needed.

When replacing the spring clamp on the boot, start working the retainer into the lip on the door opening at the opposite end of the spring. Pull the spring out as you work the clamp into place evenly up both sides of the door opening. Significant force will be needed to work the clamp back into place. I recommend wearing gloves during this process.

Once you get the washer door lock working again, test the washer in the spin mode when it is empty. Monitor on the first cycle with laundry in it to make sure that there is no damage to the spin basket or tub bearing.

When you push the washer and dryer back into place, get help and carefully push at the very bottom of the washer. Be extremely careful. You may need to use a dolly to carefully lift the washer up slightly as you push it back into place. http://media.fotki.com/1_p,wkkwfqgkqskwb...

sharon, check on these things.

"check or repair the following

Door Lock Mechanism broken or removed from the Door

Check Door Lock/Switch Assembly

Check the wire harness connections to the Door Lock/Switch Assembly and Central Control Unit (CCU)

Door Lock/Switch Assembly Failure

http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/... and http://www.thathomesite.com/forums/load/... have more on this.

Here is a way to gain access to your washer if the door is locked shut.

1. Remove the lower panel under the door by loosening the three screws under the bottom edge on the front of the washer. HINT: If you prop up the front feet of the washer with some small blocks of wood, this will make access to the screws much easier.

2. With the screws removed, the lower panel should drop down then come off. If the panel sticks, a light tap on either side will knock it loose.

3. Reach your hand up inside the washer behind the front casing on the right-hand side. This is where the door latch assembly is located.

4. At the bottom of the door latch assembly is a small pull tab. This is the manual release for the door. Pull the tab straight down and the door will come open.

Sometimes these doors will not unlock for whatever reason. If there are no error codes being generated, this could have just been a momentary glitch. If you see "Fdl" or "Fdu" error codes, these are usually indications of a failed door latch assembly and will require replacement. You can also try to reset the CCU by unplugging the washer for AT LEAST 30 minutes." Hope that helps.

How do you remove those three screws??

Unplug the machine. Wait five minutes and plug back in. Should be able to open the washer now.
