some water got on my phone that was on the counter.

I had something similar happen to me, I was washing my hands by the sink and some water got on my phone that was on the counter. I had gotten some water in the cracks on my screen and I immediately wiped them off and headed to school. after about an hour I noticed my screen began to look wet, but how you'd imagine paper to look when wet and I assume I didn't get all of the water off. after about another hour, I had been trying to get the water out but couldn't and then my screen went solid black. it's been 3 months and my phone screen has been black but it turns on and off fine (my phone vibrates when turning on and off.) and the charging port works (a red dot at the top of my phone appears when charging.) the phone is completely charged and has been for months, I'm not sure what to do about it. there are no clear signs of water left other than maybe the black screen but the rest of the phone is completely dry. any tips?

@auburritobat, It's been a decade since the original post; are we still talking about repairing a Samsung Brightside phone?

It seems evident from your description that you need to replace the LCD. You mentioned that the glass is cracked, so it would be advisable to go ahead and replace the digitizer at the same time. They can be replaced separately, but the procedure is the same for both, so you might as well while you're in there.

New LCD displays are still available for your phone; I saw at least a couple of examples on eBay. The bad news is while they're not expensive, you can buy a whole used phone of that same model for less than the cost of an LCD.

Entirely up to you; it would be great to keep something out of the landfill by repairing it, but at some point you have to balance the cost.

Anyway, here's an example of the screen:

And here's the guide you'll need to do the job.

Just as an addendum here, I wasn't able to find anyone selling the digitizer, but there are several phones being sold for parts that would make an excellent source of a replacement for the digitizer and screen on yours. Some of them are selling for about $5 USD, so that would be an excellent choice to get yours fixed.
