Hi @miekieln,

Random makes it difficult to isolate so try the following:

Connect an external monitor (TV?) to the laptop's HDMI port, toggle the display hotkey on the keyboard so that both the laptop screen and the external monitor have displays and check if they both go black or only the laptop screen.

If only the laptop screen goes black then when the screen goes black, try shining a flashlight at an angle close to the laptop's screen and check if you can see any images at all. They will be very faint if they are there so trying in a darkened room may help to see them. Being off for only 5 seconds might make it difficult to know as there's not much time to check.

If there are images then there is a backlight problem with the display. This could be either a faulty backlight power circuit on the motherboard, a loose video cable connection at either end motherboard or LCD panel, a damaged video cable where it passes through the hinge to get from the motherboard to the LCD panel in the lid or a faulty LCD panel.

Try gently moving the lid back and forth very slowly and see if you can make the screen go black. If you can it may be the cable where it passes through the hinge. Not sure if it passes through the left hinge or the right hinge (what's the full model number of the laptop?) so try pressing on the hinges to see if you can make it happen.
