Camera's shutter does not close when taking a picture

Camera is actually Canon Powershot SX430 IS but could not find it listed in the site.

Usually whenever I take a picture, the camera would produce a snap sound which I thought would be the camera's shutter. However, recently the camera would not close the shutter when taking pictures as there is no 'snap' sound produce after pressing the shutter button, causing the pictures to appear overexposed on the camera. Everything on the exterior of the camera seems fine. Could the shutter be jammed?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @zerot,

Don't know about the shutter's mechanical operation, have you tried all operating "modes" to see if the problem occurred in each mode in case it is a software problem only in one mode.

Try resetting the camera and check if that resolves the problem see p.109 the user manual.

The shutter "sound" volume is adjustable in Settings, check that it hasn't been turned off - see p.103 in the manual

Hi there,

I have tried operating in all the different modes and resetting to default settings but still the shutter would not close with the pictures appearing bright and overexposed. And no, I am not referring to the sounds from the camera's speaker as I have muted the sounds ever since I first used it.

I have the same problem. Were you able to fix it? The problem for me was, when I click photo the shutter does not close. It remains open.

Reasons range from mechanical faults to software. First check if it is adequately charged because this can cause mechanical issues. Also check if there is any obstruction caused by dirt, sand, debris etc.
If that's ok, then check if any software needs to be updated and if that doesn't work, reset to factory settings.
If nothing works and your warranty is still valid, return the %#*@ thing.
