Why can't I view my pictures?

When I go to look at my pictures it goes back to my home screen.

Try the following

Double press the home button to get the pop up menu on the bottom of the screen, scroll left/right and find the Photos icon and press/hold till a little red circle appears and the icon jiggles. then press the red circle

This should reset the photo app.
