Why has my backlight stopped working?

Last night i replaced the dock assembly and the battery on my 3gs due to water damage. When plugging it back in the backlight flickered but then continued to work until this morning when it completely stopped out of the blue.

Is there anyway to fix the problem?

leigh, that could be corrosion damage, a short circuited LCD or coil. Start by cleaning the phone using this guide. It was written for a 3G but will pertain to your phone as well. After that reevaluate. If you still hav nothing, you may need to replace your LCD or your coil. Check the traces on the logic board as well. If you need to replace anything , I'd start with the LCD unless you are handy with a soldering iron. Hope this helps, good luck
