Screen burn/ghost images on dark backgrounds.

Hi all, I've had a panicked message this morning from a customer. She had purchased a used iPhone 13 and has noticed that she can see "someone else's apps behind her screen". She forwarded a video but it's hard to make out.

When the screen is dark (not off) she can see faint app icons "behind her apps". I'm thinking screen burn but she is concerned that there is some sort of virus or malware.

Unsure of device age and previous usage as I haven't seen the phone yet.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hi

At the moment I think it’s safe to assume that it’s not malware, malware usually does much worse thing and malware is very rare on iPhones

Also burn in is quite uncommon on iPhones that have Original displays, more common on 3rd party displays but still quite uncommon

what I think the issue is most likely to be is a dislodged display connector

It could also be debris but I have seen this happen on iPhones and iPods when the ether the display is damaged, connector isn’t seated properly or the connection has debris and needs cleaned with isopropyl alcohol

Might be worth trying the above before replacing the anything ,it’s entirely up to you:-)

Hopefully this helps

Any questions please ask

Thanks:-)

Hi, after seeing the device I confirmed it was burn in for my customer.

Her initial message made it sound like she could see another, fully working set of apps behind her own when viewing on a dark background.

Upon inspection it was only 2 app icons (telegram and Viber) that were present and in the same location while using the device in various iOS functions.

Thanks for your help

@dangerw1ll must’ve been a bargain basement screen was it? I’ve replaced phone screens for years and not seen one iphone with screen burn, only dreaded Samsung.
