Won't power on when shutdown unless all battery and adapter is removed

The computer seems to physically be running fine. If the user shuts it down correctly, it will not power on again until the battery is removed, and the adapter is unplugged.

I have updated the OS, and I have also run the power management driver updates. Any ideas?

@gatewaynomad "not power on again until the battery is removed, and the adapter is unplugged" and then what do you need to do to restart it? I wonder if this is not a situation where the laptop does not read the battery and assumes there isn't one until it gets disconnected/reconnected.

To get it started I must connect either the battery or the adapter. Then it is fine until it is shut down again. Now that you mention it, I tried to do a bios update but it kept saying that the battery was not charged (It is charged and was then).

@gatewaynomad it's a long shot but I would try a new battery first. It could be deeper (like your sense circuit on the motherboard) but for that we would need to know the make and model of the motherboard.
