3GS stuck on apple logo after GPS/WiFi replacement

What was happened and what I've done:

  • iPhone fell down, glass cracked
  • everything seemed OK - lcd, gps, wifi, 3g, ...
  • digitizer replaced
  • after replacement gps has no function, wifi is fine
  • gps, wifi replaced
  • iphone stuck on apple logo - dfu? no chance :-/
  • for a short time: bolt for "please charge" (battery tested, around 3,7v)

What's up next? What to do? Any ideas? :-)

christian what happens if you take the ribbon 2 off again? any change in screen booting? It sounds like you haven't put the power connection and wifi back on properly or the dock ...no 4,5&6. I'd recheck assembly there. Is home button working??

Thanks pollytintop,

i already checked the connections, but this is the first time going so "deep"... my 3GS isn't here, i can check again @friday

home button? i can not test that because it's stuck...

for what's ribbon 2?

i will post a picture of my assembly - it will help i think...

if the problem with gps and wifi only started after you replaced the screen then maybe the new digitiser/part is causing the problem..odd but sometimes the strangest things happen... same for DFU problem, although reading your details again, perhaps you have not tightened or have wrong screw over battery contacts on motherboard so there is no power to boot your phone out of DFU and into powering sequence. This sounds more likely if you had the bolt and now all is black. Have you tried charging on the wall for 1 hour?

everything worked fine after replacing the digitiser except gps.

i made a fault disassembling the device. i did not sort the screws but i figured out all sizes with ifixit.com ... can a wrong screw do that?

i have the same problem after changing the LCD......

I charged it for 4 hours on the wall but it's still stuck...

I've got a little stress this week but I will keep on figuring out what's going on with this freaky little thing ;-)

I'll recheck all connections...

Check battery voltage.. Needs to be more than 2.2 to charge. They're easy enough to bend/break/pierce when you're removing them. Also you should take a good look at your dock connector. Your home button contacts are on there and so is charging/iTunes etc. It's no 4.. Look for torn ribbon, bent pins, dirt dust in port.

I had this problem and overcame it. My 3gs wouldn't boot past the apple logo after I installed a new wifi/gps antenna. Tried DFU a couple times, but still wouldn't boot for me.

I opened the phone back up, detached the 7 ribbons from the motherboard, inspected them to make sure they weren't damaged, and carefully, and securely, reattached them.

Put the little guy back together real quick, and was able to boot normally and do a restore.

Hello all i know this is a little late, but i have noticed that the earspeaker flex (number 3) on the screen might cause the problem. If you experience problem with stuck apple logo + spinning wheel, put on the screen without the 3rd connector.
