Black Conductive Pad under battery inside rear panel?
Where can you get these one side adhesive conductive copper / aluminium pads or tapes, do you know where ?
Is this a good question?

The copper helps dissipate heat, like a heatsink. When I work on iPod's, for example the touch 4g, I also add a dab of arctic silver paste since the paste is usually dried up.
You can find adhesive backed copper sheets, just cut to fit, google :
copper foil sheet

Is this a necessary component?

I think so, because when the battery charges, it heats up. The pad takes the heat and via the body transfers it out of the case.....
