Can you hook up an external monitor so we can tell if this is a display or logic board problem? Let us know if you have video with an external monitor. When you know we can go from there. Ralph

This could be the famous iBook GPU problem. When turned on the iBook chimes but nothing displays on the screen. Try pushing with your hand to the area immediately to the left of the trackpad. Using your fist can help. If there is an image on your screen, then it is the GPU. You will either have to go to Home Depot and buy a clamp to apply pressure on your iBook or take it apart and stick a shim on top of the GPU. Wood floor chair protectors work just fine. Here is a link for more instructions: http://coreyarnold.org/ibook/

Hope this helps :)

Update

This is a Last Attempt Thing

Open your computer up using the iBook G4 14" instructions to the heatsink. Remember you will have to remove both the bottom and top covers of your iBook, so set aside 2-3 hours for this repair. Remove the heatsink, scrape off the blue foam covering on the chip that has ATI in white text. Put something nonconductive like a floorpad or rubber strips on top of that chip, try to stick whatever blue foam you scraped off back on top of the shim you attached, and screw the heatsink on as hard as you can. Put it all back together and see how it goes!

Hi there and having read a lot about the infamous GPU error, I found this link and I like the way its done. Beats having the board refloated and a seems a little more permanent. Good luck.
