Heat gun on logic board?

Would it be safe to use a heat gun on the logic board long enough to melt the solder to remove a chip or will it ruin the board?

this isn't an answer but a comment...yes and no, yes if you do it right, no if you don't.. you need to be able to restrict heat from reaching parts you don't want to desolder, so you need a nozzle the right size for the job and to make a way of protecting other components. The problem on these phones is that the components all press up against each other, there is very little room to manoeuvre or protect parts. If you are talking heating the entire board for one chip then no it isn't safe.
