Screw type/size for Bose SoundLink AE2 headphone

I need help identifying the screw driver required to disassemble Bose SoundLink AE2 headphone. I can see it is hex but there is a bump in the middle.

In the picture, left one is the one I am trying to deal with while on the right is the screw from Asus UX303UA laptop for size comparison (same distance).

Hi @boseheadache

Don't know what the size would be but it looks very small.

The screwdriver you want is a Torx tamperproof (aka security) screwdriver. These drivers have a hole in the tip of the driver to accommodate the post in the middle of the screwhead

To give an idea of sizes a Torx T5 = 1.42 mm point to point, T6 = 1.7mm, T7 = 1.99mm & T8 = 2.31mm.

Here's a supplier of a Torx T5 tamperproof screwdriver, just to give an idea of the cost. They also have T6, T7, T8, T9 etc - just search for T(insert size number) torx tamperproof in the search box at the top of the page in the link.

There are others suppliers but most sell in sets and not individual drivers.

It’s not a secure Torx but a secure hex screw exclusive to Bose, since the smallest hex bit I could find, 1.5mm, is still too big, so it’s probably a 1.2-1.4mm secure hex head. I hope iFixit starts selling a screwdriver for this screw. Until then, try buying a 1.5mm secure hex bit and filing down the sides.
