Can the Optical Drive Replacement bay/drive be used as primary drive?

I want to do the Optical Drive bay replacement and use an SSD 80GB drive. In watching the quick video, I noticed her say that the system would recognize the Optical Drive bay as an external drive. Does this mean that it couldn't be used as the primary drive? If that is the case, would changing the primary out for an SSD and then opting to install a 750GB 7200RPM drive in the Optical Drive bay slot work?

I've had some problems with different machines booting from the optical bay drive. After I put the SSD drives in the normal hard drive bay those problems went away.

Thanks mayer... I have not yet bought the upgrade parts yet but this sounds like it will work out well.
