Can I put a 2G battery in my 3G iPhone?

My 3G battery lasts only for a few minutes. A friend gave me a broken 2G phone that evidently has a fresh battery. Does anyone know if i can use the 2G battery in the 3G phone. That would save me the time and money of having to send my 3G in for battery replacement.

Thanks.

No, according to the part's product page, it only will work in 1st gen phones. You can, however, get a 3G battery here.

For a further explanation, the 2G battery needs soldered in place- the 3G (S) battery lies at the back of the case and uses contact points, making for an easier battery replacement.

The batteries are also different physical sizes- the 2G's is more square like, whereas the 3G (S) is a long rectangle.
