How to replace hard drive

The Genius says my HD is faulty. I am going to get a new one from you, but do you have software to back up the old one, and restore the new one?

Just for giggles, why did the genius say the hard drive was bad?

If your hard drive is faulty, I'm pretty sure you won't be able to get any information off of it, no matter what software you use. A hardware problem like that isn't going to get solved by a software solution.

Here is a link to some software that you might be able to use to back it up. It is the one RAB777HP suggested SuperDuper

Good luck

Also here is a less expensive option for the external drive especially if you will not need it but for moving your data. I use it at my shop and it is great.

The OWC adapter is great (I ordered one on your recommendation) but if it's for a one time run I bet they've even got something cheaper. I tried looking but you know the path, so it would probably be easier for you to find

Nope. OWC only has the adapter that gives access to a long list of drives. The path to OWC is the URL listed above up to the .com.

You can get a new drive here, and use the enclosure here to connect the replacement to your computer and use software such as SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner to clone your internal to the new drive. Then, use the step-by-step installation guide to install the new drive.
