How to unhinge the top part of a 3DS from the bottom?

Well, we have almost finished, but can't find any info on how to unhinge the top part of the 3DS from the bottom. Anything we can find either glosses over it or focuses on just taking the top screen out and stops there.

"To continue the disassembly, we have to separate the hinges and do a bunch of cringe-inducing threading of ribbon cables through the hollow hinges."

That tells me absolutely nothing. That doesn't tell me how to separate the hinges at all and the photo just has it together in one and separated in the next.

Alright. That helps--thank you. We were hoping there was a way to do it without removing parts of the top screen, but I guess not :(
