Why would my front panel phone speaker not work after replacing glass

I recently replaced the front panel glass and back case. all things seem to be operable except for the small ear speaker in the front glass panel. before opening it back up are there any suggestions of what I might lookf for or repair. I am not a technician but I'm very technically inclined. any suggestions appreciated.

Most common reason for this is problem with Flex Cable #3 area of iPhone. Most common problem of this area, is the Flex Cable #3 is very fragile. Most common fix therefore is new Flex Cable #3. You can see if the the Logic Board Connector is damaged or if the Ear Speaker is bad, but most commonly it is Flex #3. Before opening and during repair of iPhone 3GS make sure iPhone is OFF, or you risk serious damage.
