Hi @anthony10

As a security measure to make it difficult if the PC has been stolen etc, for a long while now there hasn't been a BIOS password reset option on PC motherboards.

If the supervisor password has been set for the BIOS then you either need to contact the manufacturer with proof of purchase or search online for Acer BIOS password reset to find websites where you have to pay to get an unlocking key.

@anthony10 to supplement this, it's not hard but they generally do it with a master key or say there's no backdoor and swap the motherboard. I know how to deal with the problem out of necessity (and have done it a few times on well depreciated surplus laptops I know are legally clean) but I'm with @jayeff - we generally will not touch this here. Please don't get mad at me for saying I've done it.

The reason I mention this here is because I'm not going to deny I don't know how and a lot of us know HOW (and have done it on old machines), but I know the unit - it's old and genuinely surplus, or legally obtained. There's a difference between going in from the back on surplus (Lat 7490/E6400/D series, similarly aged Precision) which I got fair game on the market or from the megacorp scrapping it and it's free and clear to go ahead, or a legitimately obtained unit which is newer but not too new (aka under warranty, but not E6400 old) vs. a recent one, same with consumer grade.

If you can remove a BIOS password WITHOUT assistance, I trust your judgement. If you can't, I'm asking questions.
