MBP A1990 not turning on after clamshell open but trackpad is clicking

I'm having issue with my MBP 15 2019 keyboard, because of 4 years repair program it is still in warranty (keyboard only). But I didn't have the time to go ask for claim, and now my laptop is not turning on (even I can't hear fan noise if is make any during open) but trackpad is clickable (how). So, is it possible that because of my keyboard my laptop is not turning on. Please help

Let’s get a better view of things, install this gem of an app! CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here for us to see Adding images to an existing question

@danj ok I uploaded the image

by

@Adiba Parvez - Well the battery is the original, so it won't be too long before it needs to be replaced. The cycle count is a little over half way but the age is still a factor. Plan to replace it in the new year as it drops past 80%

by

@danj ok but the thing I don't get is what's. wrong with my MacBook. I even do the diagnosed and it comes ok (code: ADP000)

I am wondering if it’s possible if you might have a T2 or firmware related issue. These T2 machines can be difficult to tell if they are getting power if the display is not working. I might just double check, some other signs of power, just in case. Caps lock LED may come on, check to see if there’s anything on the display with a flashlight, just in case the black light is not functioning.

Otherwise, you can try an resolve a potential firmware issue if you have access to another Mac that will run Configurator 2. Apple has a pretty extensive Guide on this. Bear in mind it is possible that this process could affect the data on your Mac. Revive is generally safe to do without compromising the information on the machine. Restore will absolutely wipe your device altogether (in fact it even unitializes your SSD).

@flannelist So, I want to apple they say some fault in the logic board and replace it hole. So, I want to repair company that offers logic board repair and after diagnosis, they come to the conclusion that my power hub which coming from USBs (or similar) that supplies charge to the battery is rusted and needs to be replaced, and it's a 50/50 chance which I don't get it. Is it true?

Should I go for it or not?

by

@Adiba Parvez If I am understanding what the board repair place is saying, it sounds like they think there is a fault in one of the CD3215’s . To put it simply, those are the chips which control USB functions, and also are really important for charging, and overall ability to power on.

They go bad, or become liquid damaged very commonly. It could certainly be the cause of your issue. I would say it is probably worth having it repaired by them. It could be that’s not the issue. But without knowing how they determined that was the problem it’s hard to say.

by

@flannelist - The 2018 used the TI CD3215 chip this series uses the newer Intel JHL7540 Thunderbolt-3 Controller chip which has the logic built-in. So it went from a two chip to a single chip setup. Review Steps 3 & 4 in the MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar 2019 Teardown

I'm not so sure that's the case here as the Touchpad is responding (clicking) so some power is getting through.

by

@flannelist Ok, So what should I do now? should I go for it or not?

by

@danj The 2019 also uses the CD3215. In fact I think all MacBooks Pros (as well as the Retina Airs and the 12” MacBook) use either a CD3215 or a CD3217 in conjunction with a Thunderbolt Controllers (aside from the 12” which doesn’t support Thunderbolt).

There is actually a CD3215 for every USB C board. The 2019 model just happens to have one on the “front” of the board and the other three on the “back.” So it would be easy to miss. The teardown shows this as well, just no dedicated step for the back of the board, you have to select the picture manually. The 3215s are in orange.

I agree it’s not how I would expect this issue to present, it is somewhat atypical. It IS very common though on these MacBook boards.

Your keyboard and touchpad are connected to the logic board independently from each other so while one may appear to be working and the other not, does not infer what I think you are expecting.

The 2019 system is the last system Apple used the Butterfly keyboard. And you are right you can encounter issues which you may be having. But the inability to turn on maybe still something else! The fact you feel and hear the click action of the touchpad only is telling you the touchpad is getting power!

Lets give this a try press and hold the power button to enable SMC reset

Reference: Reset the SMC of your Mac

Let us know if that worked. If not you have a deeper issue (independent of the Butterfly keyboard issues)

Thanks for the reply @danj. I tried the SMC reset, but my macbook still not turning on. What else I can do, what other options I have and what is causing the problem?

And right know I'm having financial issue, and a student. I don't think I'm able to repair if the repairing cost is expensive

by

@Adiba Parvez - Sorry to say this will require deeper investigation ;-{

You have a logic board issue which will need repairs or replacement.

by

Any suggestion what to do next @danj ?

by

@Adiba Parvez - You'll need to either go to an Apple Store or an independent who has the chops in fixing this series logic boards. There are a few know chips that fail which Louis Rossmann goes over on his YouTube channel if you want the get into the depths.

by

And also is it possible my hall sensor is not working because of the keyboard issue
