Replaced Digitizer Last Night With an iFixit Kit This Morning New One

Hello, I just purchased a replacement digitizer from iFixit a few days ago and carried out the repair last night. Everything seemed fine and my son used it for several hours last night. However this morning we woke up and there was a large crack across the bottom right portion of the screen.

I don't feel like I did anything wrong here and I followed the iFixit guide to the letter. Has anyone else had this problem before with a screen cracking on its own shortly after repair? I read a few threads where people said the screen could have been faulty or had imperfections.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

As an update, I reached out to iFixit support and they're telling me that this wouldn't be covered under warranty, even though it seems like I was sent a defective part. That can't be right, can it?

Hi Josh

This is a really sticky situation for you and ifixit as there as somethings that could have caused it

It could have been a very very small shard of glass that was left under the new digitiser

It also could have been a deformity in the metal housing

However

I have see really weird case of it happening, just where glass cracks at the touch of a finger

I would imagine that ifixit won’t cover it because it’s not their fault or yours ,it’s no one’s fault

But say it was a defective part ,I would try contacting ifixit again as you may get a different answer if you just explain your situation

I wish you the best with getting things sorted out and I hope this helps

Any questions please ask

Thanks:-)
