Power on with blank screen

Sometimes, I will turn my Macbook on, I hear the chime, but I get nothing but gray screen, no matter how long I let it stay. All is Ok if I shut down and push power button again

Options

See if you get the same result when booting from your system installation disk using the "C" key. If all is well and it boots from the disk try repairing the drive using Disk Utilities.
