Why won't my N3DS XL turn on?

When I press the power button, I don't get a blue light. Nothing happens until I actually plug the console into the charger. When I press the power button, at the same time, a faint red led light appears. It's not the low battery signal as it's too faint. I had attempted at a failed DIY circle pad replacement and I wonder if I had managed to damage the motherboard. One of the zif connectors (circle pad) is broken. I can't seem to find any solutions to this problem.
