MacBook Pro not starting up without battery.

Hi All

I have a Macbook Pro Santa Rosa 2007 EMC2136 that i got lately and i am having the following issue :

- If the AC (85w) is plugged in without the battery inserted, the device won't start (no contact or noise)

- If i place the battery and start up the computer = Starts and boots great

- If i leave the battery and plug in the AC = Starts and boots great

If i take off the battery while AC plugged (with Macbook shutdown) it starts up great but if i unplug / replug AC afterwards = No contact or noise

It's pretty weird

Hope someone can help out !

Thanks and good day :)

Hi

Matt ! It is for sure an 85w but a generic one and even if it has been working fine lately it is not a sure value (the green / red light on the end of the plug stays on even after being disconected) so you've got a good point, i should start to try with a decent original AC adapter.

I'll get on kijiji right away and will keep you updated ! Thanks

Hey Matt, you were right : i tried with another 85w original working MagSafe and the Macbook Pro is starting like a charm without any battery ! I'm very happy, thanks for your help ! Is there a way i can put your comment as accepted answer ?

Have you verified you are using an 85 watt adapter? If so, then see if you can find another 85 watt that you can try and boot with. I have only heard of this problem happening with AC adapters that are starting to fail or are below 85 watts.
