The motherboard or mainboard will contain all of the configuration of the phone, it will be very likely that if the board is replaced correctly it will behave like a new (out of the box) device and not have any of your configuration, like face ID. Be sure to backup if you can before swapping parts.

I tried going to a repair shop and he told me that replacing the motherboard would lose face unlock because he said the front camera needs to be paired with the motherboard to restore face unlock properly

i cant find any documentation to support that claim however i do not have access to google's repair documentation. It seems redundant to pair cameras to main boards in that way as this limits repairability. my hunch would be that the repairer is trying to get more money out of you but i am jaded on the matter. If the camera works then Face ID unlock should work.

@mixxy1010 - respectfully disagree with your statement. Apple regularly pairs cameras with the logic board in order to prevent hardware hacking that would allow you to bypass Face ID security, so it's not surprising at all that Google would do the same. Apparently they dropped the Face ID, as my Pixel 6 Pro doesn't have it; they went back to fingerprints as the biometric security.

So, Wai Hong, in order to replace the motherboard you would have to also buy a camera that is paired to the motherboard. On iPhones there is also an infrared dot projector that is also paired to the phone, but I don't know about the Pixel 4's Face ID hardware requirements.

I guess that answers the question of whether the camera is paired to the logic board or not. Sorry to hear that.
