Why is my ps3 not booting up

my ps3 will not boot up. when pressing the power button it goes from no power to stand by (red light) to green light, you can hear the drive turn briefly, it beeps green light blinks and shuts off. I tried disconnecting power cord for a few minutes but no luck.
