Can I swap to a 30g from a 5th gen?

I have a 5th gen 30g that has no sound. Can I put the 30g hd into a 6th gen 80g that has a bad hd?

As for the sound on the 30g, I can connect via usb cable to my laptop and have sound from the computer speakers. Do you still think it is the board? I do not have sound with ear buds in the audio jack and I know they are good.

That could just be simple fix by replacing the audio jack. iPod 5th Generation (Video) Headphone Jack & Hold Switch Replacement

Thanks, I think I will try that first.

Bobby, I am sure it wont work, the logic board is different, some of the connectors, especially the display connector is offset compared to the 5th gen. The other issue you might run into is the audio issue. You may have a bad audio IC on your board, which is not uncommon. My best advice would be to either replace the HDD and/or the logic board, both are about the same price. Hope this helps, good luck.
