*EliteDesk 800 G4* Display speakers not detected reliably

I suspect it may be my DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, but that is because I do not own any DisplayPort monitors. The machine also has the VGA flex card rather than DP or HDMI as it's a "TAA" system as well. This is the adapter I am using: Displayport DP to HDMI

While this issue is intermittent, the integrated audio on the system is useless beyond the BIOS. It works in the operating system, but it is unusable, hence why I use the TV speakers. If the system goes to sleep due to inactivity (as well as the Vizio TV, where I CANNOT disable this "feature"), there is a 50/50 chance on if the TV audio is registered or not - although it seems like most of the time, it has an issue without manually sleeping it and waking the system back up.

Since the DisplayPort spec supports audio, I should be able to use my TV speakers and not get externals. Could it be I need to install a DisplayPort flex card (which I have from a dead 800 G4) or I can keep the VGA one but use a better adapter?
