Why isn't my new HD recognized by 12" iBook G4?

I just replace the failing 40 GB HD in my 12" iBook G4 with a 160 GB Western Digital from iFixit with excellent instructions from the website.

I then attempted to format the HD and install Leopard OS using my 10.5 system install DVD, but it would not recognize the new HD.

I did utilize the disk utility on the install disk. The only item it saw was the DVD drive. I've also researched this on iFixit website and Apple's support site, but can't seem to find a solution. Seeing all the problems that have been solved here, I hope you can help me. Thanks

Is the HD ribbon connector connected at both the connection points.

Yes, I went back in and redid all steps. (Basically, reinstalled the HD.)

When you hit the startup key on the computer put your ear near the palm rest. Can you hear any noise? Is there a spinning or clicking sound?

Success everybody!!! Thanks for all our help. It turns out the HD connector was not completely seated at the logic board connection. So much for my 'thorough' job of installation. Everything working like a charm, now it's just install all the software on the new HD. Thanks again. I'll be back for other problems.....
