Most likely your hard drive is bad or has become corrupt. First try holding down the option key as you boot up. If the option menu appears, this is a good sign and may mean that the laptop can't find a bootable volume. If such is the case, I'd try booting from your OS X install disk, see if it will let you reinstall the OS. The default settings will not erase data on the drive. In the screen that asks you to select a drive to install to does not show any drives, pull down Disk Utility from the top of the screen and see if it lists the hard drive when the utility appears. If it does, run a disk check on it to see it that reveals anything and then format the drive with the write zero option (This will map out any bad sectors so data will not be written to them and become corrupt.) and install the OS. If you are not getting a menu when booting to options then shut it down. Reboot the laptop, wait for a few minutes. Push the power button and then push enter. If it shuts off, the problem lies in the display data cable or LCD.
