Is this a faulty screen or the logic board, after water damage(video)?

Hi,

My girlfriend dropped her iPhone 4 half in a drink last week, since then I tried drying it in rice for a few days with no luck, then I bought a container of isopropyl alcohol (99%) and soaked the phone in that (minus the battery) for a few hours and letting it dry out for several days.

Now when you turn the phone on its usable in that you can navigate around, launch apps etc but the screen only shows a weird pattern. Just wondering if anyone knows if this is definitely the logic board/corrosion or would a replacement LCD/digitizer fix this?

The screen was showing a bit more of an actual image a few days ago but now just this, here's a video of it I just took:

You can see from about 1 min 15 seconds onward that the phone is still usable

Thanks a lot for your time

TopCat, you disassembled your phone and cleaned the logic board, contacts etc.? At first look I would go with a new LCD.....

I didn't clean the contacts/board directly, just took the battery out and gave it a bath in the isopropyl alcohol, swished it around and soaked it for a couple hours after reading about this in several places..

It looks like the LCD did not tolerate the isopropyl very well. I would start by disassembling it, cleaning the board and the connectors and replacing the LCD. I would suggest this guide this guide for any liquid immersion. You can find the guides for your phone right here. Hope this helps, good luck.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Any idea where I can get hold of the proper LCD/digitizer? Most of the ones I've found online have bad reviews/are made by random companies...

Thanks

TopCat, that is a bit of a hit and miss. I replaced a few LCD that I has purchased from from here. That is not to say that all their stuff is perfect all the time, but over the last 3 years, I have not had a dud or any other problems with the. Of course if you want high quality with great support, get it from here Again, this is my preference and I am sure there are many great places out there. Hope this helps.
