Is the VESA parts equal for late 2015 and 2019 iMac's (5K, 27")?

Hi! I'm looking to purchase the separate VESA parts needed to convert both my late 2015 and my 2019 iMac (27" 5K) from the normal table stand to the VESA mount.

I'm well aware that these parts isn't sold officially but they are available second hand. It seems though that Apple is using different serial numbers on the parts depending on model years, but I still suspect that the actual parts are the same dimensions.

What's unclear is if the hole pattern changed for the VESA mechanism plate and if the VESA tongue groove changed between 2015 and 2019?

Can anyone confirm or debunk this?

The parts needed for the conversion is:

  • VESA mechanism plate
  • VESA tongue
  • VESA plate
  • Screws for tongue and plate

Yes, I'm well aware of how much of the internals of the iMac needs to be removed to be able to do this. I've done it before to change the spring mechanism for the stand.

Best regards /K

The hinge piece for the VESA mount is the same set of parts for both the 2015 & 2019 systems Its a plate which is screwed into the the back shell case via six screws

Here's the needed internal kit Mac 27" VESA Backing Plate/Hinge (L15/17/19), Apple P/N 923-00657

The tongue part is different between the 2015 model and the 2019 models, not sure why so you may need to order the 2019 version separately.

You then need the VESA plate and its screws:

That gets you to the point of then needing the VESA stand.

Thank you for the quick answer @danj ! At least the backing plate and the mounting bracket is the same. So weird that they changed the tongue though.. Apples engineering is … something else.. 😅

Hello,

Looking to do this exact same thing. Were you successful with these parts?

Thanks!

@ianbish13 - I had setup two systems a few months before my post, not sure if you can find the parts now. You also need the display adhesive tapes and pizza cutter tool.

Appreciate it. Yeah, It’s gonna be a challenge finding those parts now.
