Lost music and unrecognised by iTunes!? :/

Unfortunately I dropped my iPod today and when i plugged it back in there was no music on it at all? All 80GB missing?? When I got home I plugged it in to the laptop and for a brief second it came up as just iPod instead of 'the big boy' it's old name, it offered to restore factory settings but when i tried to do this it froze itunes. now when i plug it in it just doesn't recognize it's there at all? when i looked in 'my computer' i noticed it was still referred to as the big boy! i looked in the music file and there were 3 songs in there instead of my music collection. there is no damage out side the ipod, no cracks or anything? can anybody help me? Thanks

It's possible you disconnected the hard drive when you dropped it...the worse thought is that the hard drive destroyed itself on the impact (spinning parts + impact = bad). If a hard reset won't work you may have to venture into the iPod to see if you can find a loose connection.

also check if you can place your ipod into disk mode. Do a chksdsk on it, and if you have your music files on itunes, try to format your drive. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363 tells you how to do that.
