Touch screen does not work.

This iPod was never opened nor gotten wet. It can be charged, you can view the screen, nothing appears broken, you can sync it. When you turn it on you get the usual unlock screen, but it can't be unlocked since the screen does not work. Tried a hard reboot, a restore with iTunes, etc. Does anyone know what could be wrong or what I can try to fix?

If the phone has been hit hard or dropped, it's possible that the touch screen connector has come undone. Short of this, it's possible that the circuitry somehow wore out or was defective. My suggestion now, since you've done all the software related fix attempts, would be to open it up and see if you can find anything obvious. Use this guide to get to the screen connections to inspect them. Let us know what you find!

With everything you have tried, and since your iPod has had no obvious damage, I would go with what Phillip suggest and prepare for the replacement of the digitizer. Good Luck
