LiDAR sensor not working - is it the sensor or a board problem?

I recently stumbled upon an iPhone 12 Pro Max with an broken LiDAR sensor. The “measure’’ app instantly freezes, and no 3D scanning app detects input from the sensor. All other components in the phone work great and all camera’s work in their normal modes. There also isn’t any excessive power drain or heat generation like sometimes happens with shorts. It also boots normally. I did order a replacement LiDAR sensor, but it will take a while for it to arrive. However, I am currently wondering if it could be related to the power circuit on the mainboard. There’s of course always a chance that it is an board related problem, but how likely is it that it’s an board problem?

without some sophisticated test equipment it is a parts jockey fix.

The sensor is the obvious first choice.

I’ll probably just have to wait until the part arrives to be sure. Luckily it’s dirt cheap at only €15 so I got nothing to lose.
