Stuck in recovery loop, iOS 5.0.1

Hey all,

I was on iOS 5.0.1 before I started having problems. I had jailbroken the phone back when I was on 4.3.3, but have not jailbroken since. I restored at the release of 4.3.5 and been "stock" every since. I was doing some work on my phone and had some issues with a new LCD. I did a reset using home and power buttons, and when I was finally on a working LCD, I discovered that I was on the iTunes recovery screen. I've had this issue before but was able to get out of it using a combination of redsnow, tiny umbrella and a modified hosts file. I've been trying to use the same method, trying different combinations of things and different versions of iOS (from 4.3.3 to 5.0.1) with no luck. I keep getting restore errors (11, 21, 1643, etc). I'm at the point where I'm ready to sell the thing off and switch to (gasp) Android, I'm so feed up with this. Can someone PLEASE help?!

Thanks,

Bryan

I'm on a Mac (OS X 10.7.2). Thanks for the link, too. Still getting errors, this time I'm getting the "This device isn't eligible for the requested build." I'm trying to restore with iOS 5.0.1 which is what I was running before the problem. Why the ^@#^ wouldn't this work?!

I've tried iOS 4.1, 4.2.1, 4.3.3, 4.3.5, 5.0, and 5.0.1. None of them work. Someone is trying to tell me to switch...

I appreciate the replies but the fact remains that my phone wasnt jailbroken when the recovery loop started so i dont think saving shsh blobs is an option--correct?

@Puckettj4, what does "reflow my chip" mean? Also how do i restore from TinyUmbrella? I understand how to fix recovery and exit recovery but im not quite sure how you would restore with TU.

Thanks again for your comments!

Have you changed host file each time you tried to downgrade or restore? I had same problem with a 3 gs and lost count of the number of times I did it before the restore worked on ios5..As for tinyumbrella it will only save the current os on the phone. Ps, what did you do with the old screen? Have you tried putting it back on? Tried disconnecting no.3 if it's a full display change, it can make all sorts of trouble.

Hello !

Had the same issue and solved it by using redsnow:

download redsn0w (latest version)

goto Extras->exit Recovery

the good news is that it comes back to life .. the bad news it probably wasn't updated

Good luck

You have to put it in recovery by holding down the power and home button, it will go into that mode after the second apple logo then you will have to restore it in iTunes you will loose your jailbreak and all but it's better than bricking...you will get an error from iTunes because you are redirecting your firmware...when the error pops up note the error code and follow the directions in "more info" how to automatically fix this in windows. The cat and mouse continues...apple is ahead at the moment on this one. Good Luck!

You also need to put the firmware in the trash or another location and maybe the jail breaking software you might wanna try a different account too..

I've been putting the phone into both DFU and recovery mode, I've tried to wipe out all of the IPSW files, I've modified the host file, I've used redsnow a hundred different ways (recovery fix just gets me the drive icon on the screen and it freezes. I've tried the fix recovery option in TinyUmbrella and all I get is a screen showing that greenpoison was initialized and that's where that process stopped. I'm fairly certain this phone is bricked, but certainly there MUST be a way to restore??? I've tried every iOS IPSW file from 4.0-5.01 and none of them have worked. I almost always get the iTunes error that states that my device isn't eligible for that build. I suppose I need to try iOS 1.0? WTF? All this from replacing an LCD. I was NOT jailbroken at the time the recovery loop started...Also, I tried to restore from my son's Windows PC on iTunes and got the exact same results. I've also tried about 3 different cables, all of them are OK with any other device and purpose.

In order to upgrade or downgrade with itunes you need to save the shsh file that is in the phone with Ifaith.exe or Tiny umbrella. I have the same problem but i have partially restored my 3gs iphone. Ifaith allowed me to use the shsh file to make a custom ipsw and install 4.1. I also was able to reinstall 5.0.1 ipsw, but the only problem I have now is no wifi and no service and no baseband. If I were you I would try ifaith you have nothing to lose.

Is this a solution using a Mac or PC? The poster has a Mac.

It is using windows PC. I managed to get everything back except my wifi and network, but I am going to reflow my chip and see if that repairs mine. I have been using Ifaith ver. 1.4 Hope that helps.

Here are two ways for you to follow:

One. Without any tool:

1. created custom ipsw through redsn0w with 'yes' in new bootrom prompt.

2. then selected pwn dfu option and connected iphone.

3. redsn0w imediately exploited it with limerain (since it was in dfu mode).

4. then opened itunes and selected custom ipsw for restore. (redsn0w window was open)

5. 1601/1062 error comes.

Two. With Tenorshare ReiBoot

Tenorshare ReiBoot is special designed to get iPhone into/out of recovery with single click. No need power button and it is free. Get it from http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product...
