Why won't my MacBook Pro power on?

I have a early 2008 15" Macbook Pro. It's got the 2.5 Ghz C2D. I received this unit for free because it won't power on.

I ordered a new "T" Magsafe adapter right away and tried it. I get no light on the Magsafe adapter. I tested the Magsafe on my other Macbook Pro and it works fine. I also tried the "L" new style Magsafe Adapter on the broken MBP. No light.

So I took it apart and removed the Left i/o Magsafe board. I purchased a good known working replacement. I just installed that today and I still get nothing. No light on either Magsafe Charger. So it appears that the SMC isn't activating the Magsafe board. Unfortunately the battery was completely depleted when I received the unit, so I can't test that.

I'm trying to restore this to good working health. Does it look like I need to buy a new Logic Board or are there other things that I can try? I did reset the SMC and that didn't do anything. I'd appreciate your input!

What are the last 3 characters of your serial number? Did you purchase the 60 watt or 85 watt power adapter?

by

Serial ends in YK0 and both of my adapters are 85 Watt Magsafe which is appropriate for a 15". I realize that this particular model has been known to have issues with the newer Magsafe chargers. That's why I purchased a "T" adapter to go with it. So I have a new "L" Adapter that came with my 2010 MBP and then I have the "T" that I bought for this one. Thank you for answering!

That's very close. It's the 2.5 Ghz A1260 Model. Any thoughts on my issue?

A lot of these machine won't power on if the battery is completely drained. If you have a similar machine around try switching batteries. Let us know your results. This machine also has the GeForce 8600M GT video processor which Apple had problems with but we need it to try to boot before going into that.

Right. I'm aware of that video issue. Shouldn't the machine still boot without the battery? I thought that you could still turn it on when connected to MagSafe with the battery removed. Am I wrong?
