Can I Install PC3-8500 RAM in my Mac Mini

I just bought a stack of PC3-8500 RAM for my Mid-2009 MacBook Pro.

Now I'm thinking of buying more for my new Mid-2011 Mac Mini.

There seems to be conflicting information on this site about whether PC3-8500 RAM will happily live in a new Mac Mini.

Here is the guide for installing RAM in this model. It says PC3-8500 is a valid part.

But look at the compatibility guide for this model and it lists a different type of RAM.

Can anyone verify if this will work, or show me a page that definitely shows RAM compatibility for this computer? Thanks!

Awesome site, btw.

Chosen Solution

According to MacTracker:

Model Identifier Macmini5,1 (2.3 GHz) Macmini5,2 (2.5 or 2.7 GHz)

Type of RAM Slots 2 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

The PC3-8500 will work but at a lower speed. Are you sure you want to limit your ram speed ?
