Replacing removed key on MBP 14?

It looks like my cat removed the down arrow key on my laptop. Any recommendations for putting it back on? Apple Support didn’t know what to do other than recommend that I go to my nearest store 2 hours away.

Update (01/19/2022)

Figured out the solution! When you lift the right side of the scissor switch, it also lifts the left. While the left side is lifted, you can slide the key (tipped on its side to the left) under the lifted left side. This allows the switch to drop into the clip on the key. The key can then be dropped down and snapped in on the other side.

I have been meaning to write a guide for these honestly. All of the keyboards from the MacBook pro 16” 2019 and forward work the same way…. Anyways.

Does it look like all of the components are present (the scissor mechanism is there and all the posts on the back of the keycap seems undamaged)? You can take pictures and add them to the original post if you’re not sure.

The way I do these if all components are present and nothing is damaged is as follows. Put the scissor mechanism into the keyboard, it will likely only fit one way. The hinge should be on the left edge, and it should open on the right edge.

Once it’s in, open the scissor mechanism a little bit on the right edge, insert the keycap into the well on the hinge side so it locks onto the mechanism, sort of push it back into this hinge as you close the scissor and press down to engage the snaps on the right side.

It’s honestly hard to describe. This video is quite long but shows the whole process in detail. You can probably skip about halfway in where they actually show what the mechanism looks like and how it opens.
