My PSP has various power issues.

Some quick background:

The PSP is a PSP-1001

It is running custom firmware 5.50 GEN-A

(CFW is necessary to apply translation patch to my copy of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd)

PSP had a "dead" battery in the past

So, first thing that happens, I dust off my psp which hasn't been used in ages, as my import of Monster Hunter arrived in the mail, YAY! At first, it doesn't power on at all. I figured "duh, haven't used it in months, battery is completely discharged". So I plug it in, hit the power switch...... and nothing, green light comes on, screen backlight turns on, but that's it. I think, huh, I already have CFW on, can't be bricked. I start it up while holding R, and still nothing.

At this point, I think to myself "hmmmm, maybe battery is funky?". Turn on the psp, without the battery in, and it powers on fine, boots up, plays monster hunter (which is awesome btw). I think "cool, probably just need a new battery, but I'll use my friend's to test". Get battery from friend. Pop it in the psp. Psp keeps running, unplug AC, keeps going, everything is cool. PSP suddenly turns off out of nowhere. I say "WTF". I go to turn it back on, and again, green light, backlight, nothing else. Plug it into AC. Same. Remove battery, plug in, powers up fine. At which point, I can put the battery back in, unplug it, and it works.

EPIC confusion on my part.

So as the TL:DR version

System powers on only with AC plugged in, and battery removed.

System can run off battery power, if the system is first powered on via AC only

System cannot exit sleep mode with battery inserted

System randomly powers off, only when battery is fully charged, inserted, AC is plugged in, and wi-fi is on.

Questions:

Anyone have any idea what the !$*$ is wrong with it?

I already have a vita pre-ordered, is it worth bothering?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?
