Display is often scrambled on startup.

My iPod 5th Gen will often start up with the display scrambled into a unintelligible smearing of vertical or horizontal lines.

It continues to operate fine, but it's tough to guess where I'm navigating!

The five R's have not helped. This happens more than half the time on startup.

Is this a display issue, or a logic board issue?

Thanks, - al.

Before you do any replacements, I'd suggest opening the iPod and checking to make sure the display's ribbon cable connector is properly connected and that none of the pins are damaged/missing. You can follow this guide to disassemble your device.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Thanks Jake, I'll give it a shot. The symptoms certainly seem like a faulty connection could be the culprit.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes!

acbailey, I totally agree with Jake on that one. If you must replace anything, start with the display, it is relatively inexpensive and not difficult to replace. The other thing to watch out for is the clip that folds over the connector to hold the cable in place. They do have a tendency of warping and breaking, thus not holding the cable in properly. Sometimes a piece of Kapton tape will hold the cable in and still make good contact.
