Post coffee dunk, Contact Cleaner vs Backlight

My wife dropped her iPhone 4 in a shallow cup of coffee top first. The phone was submerged to about the ear piece from the top side. After the dunk the headphone sensor must have been gummed up because the speaker didn't work and had the headphone symbol active at the top of the screen.

I shut the phone down and got my contact cleaner and gave the phone a good spraying into the earphone jack, earpiece and volume and power buttons. I then put the phone in a ziplock baggie with a healthy scoop of silica desiccant for 24hrs.

After this the speaker works but the power button is a little sticky. What worries me is the screen has developed some very bright spots on the backlight. The pixels render properly but you can see the bright spots behind the LCD.

I need to disassemble the phone so I can clean out the top area better to remove the remaining coffee. Is contact cleaner incompatible with the backlight? Should I proceed differently?

what's in your contact cleaner? one guy who posted on here recently found out it was 99% water! Highest % alcohol you can get is best because it evaporates quickly. PS backlight doesn't have random spots..I'd think you have coffee either in the layers or under the silver adhesive. Clean your phone and connections but you may need a new display if it is too annoying

The contact cleaner is CRC Contact Cleaner which is hexane. Need to order a pentalobe screwdriver so I can disassemble it for cleaning.

I have the similar problem, after spraying contact cleaner in the volume button due bad contact, bright spots on the backlight appeared, already passed 2 weeks, the spot decreased in the first days, but now is stable, no improvement after 1,5 weeks.. This stain will dry or is permanent?
