Black screen, capslock and numlock flash 5 times

I have an elitebook 1040 g4 that I got as a failed laptop, I had it working intermittently for a while, then it stopped completely.

When I started looking at the issue, I took the board out, found I had knocked a diode off the board.

I've resoldered the diode, seems to be connected and passes a diode test on the multimeter.

Frustrated, can't find a schematic, not sure what's what.

This may help:

Disconnect the power supply and power the computer with battery power. This resets the Embedded Controller/Keyboard Controller.

  1. Unplug the AC power from the computer.
  2. Press and hold the power button for more than 12 seconds.
  3. Release the power button (after at least 12 seconds).
  4. The computer powers on and should boot normally.
  5. Re-connect the AC power to the computer.

I don't know why this is the go to solution for this issue because it doesn't work.

I should have added that I have tried this already.

Not having a go, and appreciate all input on this issue, but there's a ton of YouTube videos that also say this that. Some of my reading on this issue is that I might be missing a power supply. Does anyone know the best test points and what voltages to expect. I have battery voltage, 3.3 and 5 and 1.8 and some lower voltages.
