Wifi not working, Bluetooth working (tried almost everything)
Hello! I’m having wifi issues on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro 15 inch.
I was getting issues where I could see the wifi logo at the top of my screen but then trying to turn it on or off lagged, and it wouldn’t detect networks. Using the troubleshooter thing, that would crash.
The Bluetooth is working fine. And I can still connect to internet via a LAN cable.
I tried resetting PRAM etc. and reinstalling OS (Catalina), but that hasn’t fixed it. I’ve now wiped the machine and gone back to an older OS (Mojave) because some forums state issues with Catalina, but now my Mac doesn’t display any wifi logo or any wifi options in settings at all..
When I do a system report I get information under the Bluetooth tab, but I only get “software” information under the wifi tab.
My partner has a 13 inch MacBook Pro of the same generation, so I was going to try the wifi card from that and seeing if that one works, then buy a replacement card if it does. The problem is the screws in the mounting bracket were so tight that I’ve stripped one (I know, my bad), so now it’ll be a mission to get out.
Should I persevere with trying to get the card out and testing a swap, or if Bluetooth is working does that mean the card isn’t broken?
Any tips for getting tiny stripped screws out of tiny holes inside a computer?!
Alternative is to get a USB wifi adapter, but I’d like to try and get a bit more life out of my machine without having to do that if I can.
Is this a good question?
