Bought a used iPad and...

I recently bought a used 12.9' iPad Pro 2018 off of eBay for a good price at £400. It comes with 30 day returns and was sold by a pawn shop.

I am quite happy with the condition of it at that price point. The only thing which I have noticed is a small flickering line of pixels which looks like it might have happened because of a scratch. It does not show up all the time, only sometimes? It is very small and you wouldn't notice it unless you were looking very hard. The pixels are always either blue or an orange colour.

Please see attached for videos on the issue. It changes depending on when I touch the screen - I think it doesn’t become visible when the screen is moving? But I am not sure

As its not noticeable I do not mind keeping it, as I was able to pick it up for a good price. My only worry is whether the problem could spread and get worse. I’m not particularly sure what issue it is - if it is something which just happened as a result of a scratch or a symptom of something much more serious.

Any advice/thoughts would be much appreciated.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Just realised the lighting might make it hard to see the flickering - it is right at the bottom just by the fingerprint mark. It is a blue sort of line.

Unless the device undergoes any significant physical damage, there is no real risk of the problem spreading. iPads are designed with the LCD and digitizer separated from each other. Most repair shops don’t touch any iPad Pro models due to the volatility of that repair, but you may be able to find one to fix it for you. However, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have no other options. If you are concerned about the issue, I would recommend returning it as you can get a refurbished one from Apple. While more expensive, it is guaranteed to be a high quality, good condition device, most likely with more storage than the one you acquired. They normally run about £200-£300 below MSRP.

Thanks a lot. So this is something to do with the digitizer and is something unlikely to spread? If so I think I will keep it. Why do you think the line only appears sometimes and disappears when the screen is moving.

£400 is a really good price and to return it and buy another would probs cost £250 more (as this is a 12.9 inch. I think the pawn shop sold this at the 11' price by accident)

That would be a fault on the LCD. It is unlikely that it will spread. I'm not sure why it only appears sometimes, but unless you drop the device frequently, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If you are concerned, you could contact Apple support and see what they can do for you.
