Kristin Osborne, the first thing you could try and do, check your fluid, make sure it is a the right level. After that I would do an oil and filter change on your transmission. I would stay away from a transmission flush, since they can make things worse a lot quicker. It could be debris in your pump body or even a failing pump. The overdrive unit is part of your transmission and thus hard to fix for the DIY'er. I would take it to a transmission shop and see if they can repair just the OD unit, most shops will not. At least let them properly diagnose the issues. Also, see if they can get the codes of your OBD to see if your transmission sends error codes. Not every code will turn your service engine soon light on. Your TCM should be sending a code if it is functioning right. Hope this helps to get you started, good luck.

You might also want to see if this transmission has adjustable bands. When changing the filter, and cleaning the pan, some transmissions have "bands" that are adjustable. If a transmission shop is going to look at it, ask if this is possible before being sold on rebuilding it at a whopper cost versus a couple hundred bucks.
