Laptop fully charged and makes start up sound but isn’t coming on

My laptop was working perfectly fine - and then I just closed the lid (not shutting it down) and came back to use it maybe an hour later and now it won’t come on. I press the power button and it makes the MacBook start up sound but the screen isn’t coming on. I’ve put the charger in a few times it’s definitely charging/was fully charged when I shut the lid before. For a 2014 model it’s in very good condition - mainly because I barely use it much.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Let’s give this a try take a flashlight and aim it though the lids Apple logo (a poor persons backlight) Do you see the faint image of your desktop and its icons?

If you do then the backlight logic needs repairs. If not, then the display assembly its self may need replacing, see if an external display works to verify. If it works then thats your issue. Otherwise the iDP/eDP cable between the logic board and the display has an issue.
