broke ribbon replacing screen, what does it do?

well i replaced my screen on my iphone 4 but when i was re-assembling i broke one of the ribbons, out of the 5 main ones it was the middle one, so i went ahead and still plugged it in even tho the other side wasnt attached to any thing, turned the phone on and everything seems to be working, camera, text, phone, speakers, flash, internet, home button, touch screen and anything else i can think of. my question is what does that ribbon do? and should i expect bad things now?

The middle one you mention is the headphone / volume / mute button cable.

You probably are not able to use the headphone output as well as the mute and volume buttons anymore, that's all.

Can you check if these functions still work or not?

Not too hard if you know what to do. Have a look at the guide to see how to do.

I broke the first one (starting from the left) and i did that same thing- plugged it in even though its broken. My iphone wont turn on though, is that the problem?? it vibrates, but nothing on the screen will show up.
